A quick goodbye and 3 takeaways.

There is beauty in the present. We spend 1/3 (or more) of our day working. If you can’t find joy in what you do and who you do it with, you’re going to have a difficult time finding fulfilment. As I leave K-Swiss, I want to share three key takeaways that helped me love work every single day and I hope will help you in your personal journey.

1: Community:

Being the community manager allowed me to really understand how important engaging with customers is in building meaningful relationships and understanding their wants. I feel that too often people want to look outside their walls for the perfect influencer, but I believe some of the best “influencers” are found in your own community. Work with people who already believe in your mission and products and let the authentic stories follow. Without community, who are you speaking to? Who are the people that care? And who are you telling stories to?

Pro Tip: If you want to know what your customers look and sound like. Check your tagged posts. See the most purchased product, and look for patterns.

2: Teamwork/Communication:

Having a team is equal to being in a relationship. The way to find success within a team is to have clear communication, leave ego at the door, and help each other achieve the overall goal. If the team can’t function aka not communicate well, it will be evident in the execution. Having great people around you is key. Choosing to see the greatness in your team is also key and a skill. If you can’t enjoy the company of your team, you won’t enjoy your work. If you don’t enjoy work, you won’t perform well. It’s easy in any work environment to point a finger when things aren’t going the way they are supposed to. To that I say, take accountability. Always ask yourself, “IS IT ME?” Add value to your team, genuinely give a damn about them. Communication and connection will lead to success. At the end of the day, your team should make you better, and you should also strive to make your team better.

3: Champion Others

Some people may not know how great they are unless you position them to win. I’m thankful for my friend and mentor, Barney Waters, (President of K-Swiss) for not only believing in me, but for putting me in situations that allowed me to stretch myself. A great leader champions others to win by not only believing in them, but helping them find success through action. I realize that I was extremely fortunate to have the relationship I had with Barney, but there is a Barney in every company. Lean on them for guidance. Learn from the best and find your greatness. There’s a quote I love that says, “I believe in you. So that makes two of us.”

Thank You and Goodbye.

I’m thankful for everything I learned at K-Swiss. From community management, producing podcasts, Campaign launches, influencer marketing, social media calendar management, copywriting, creative campaign productions, Product photography, activations, and so on… I stayed involved with everything I could because that is how to level up, by getting your hands dirty with a smile.

Enjoy the present, crush your work, and have fun.

Much Love.

Omar.
